Systems-based whole person care

Spinewave takes a systems approach to the concept of health. Systems biology studies a person as an integrated whole. Well-being, robustness, adaptability, and balance is maintained because the function of the whole system is more than the sum of its parts. This philosophy, together with years of diagnostic experience, practical skill, and humane care, is what makes recovering from pain or achieving wellness a comfortable process at Spinewave.

Nerves

The role of the nervous system is to adapt to the environment, coordinate bodily functions to maintain balance, and control pain. Functional health problems may develop when these systems are overworked, fail to turn off when no longer needed, or do not adequately adapt to threat.

Joints

The joints of the skull, jaw, spine, and limbs are a major source of information feedback for the nervous system. Joint problems can give rise to pain, chronic inflammation, and poor brain-body communication. Joint structure is often overlooked in resolving chronic health conditions.

Muscles

Muscle pain is typically described by people as stabbing, tight, radiating, vague, aching, with pain referral to other areas. It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between pain arising from muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones or joints. Ongoing muscle soreness can create problems within the nervous system.

Gut

The flora of the gut promotes normal gastrointestinal function, protects from infection, regulates metabolism, and comprises more than 75% of the immune system. Dysregulated gut function has been linked to disease, inflammation, and chronic pain.
